This article examines California environmental legislation, such as the California Global Warming Solutions Act and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and how it will affect builders and real estate developers in the upcoming years. Though these businesses are not immediately identified as significant causes of the greenhouse gas emissions the California Global Warming Solutions Act was passed to mandate, land use decisions can have an impact on transportation, the primary source of emissions in California, ultimately affecting a project’s CEQA compliance.
